The History of Miller McConnell Signs
The history of Miller McConnell Signs is one of hard work, determination, and success. It all began in the early ’90s when Jim Miller approached Craig McConnell with the idea of opening a sign company. Craig jumped at the opportunity, and in 1992 they opened their own sign shop under the name Vinylgraphics Custom Signs (an Ontario-wide franchise chain).
Equipped with a simple 15″ vinyl plotter, two computers, and a month’s worth of training, Jim and Craig set off to take the sign industry by storm. They hired their first employee in 1993 and by 1994 had grown to a team of six. Their studio quickly became recognized for its exceptional service and outstanding sign quality, winning several Franchise of the Year honours. They also shot to #1 in sales—a tradition of excellence they would continue for a number of years.
In 2002, their relationship with the Toronto-based franchisor was coming to an end; they moved their business to a larger facility, allowing them to take on more and larger projects. Around this same time, Craig, who had been working with Jim since the company’s inception, became a full partner in the company.
With a bigger facility and a new ownership structure in place, it was time to create a new identity for the company. Following the advice of many of their long-time customers, they went with the natural choice: Miller McConnell Signs.The company has grown into Ottawa’s premier full-service sign company, offering seamless service that includes planning and design, production, on-time delivery, and installation. Miller McConnell creates bright, vivid signs that get noticed. Our team members are experts in creating trade show graphics, convention display signs, vinyl banners, billboards, vehicle wraps, custom window signs, property management signs, and everything in between.
After 22 years in the sign industry, and countless valuable relationships formed, Jim Miller retired on May 27, 2014. With Jim’s retirement, Craig took over full ownership of Miller McConnell Signs to continue the company’s long tradition of excellence.

Craig attributes this success to the incredible relationships they have developed throughout the years and their drive to always go the extra mile to make clients happy.
