Ottawa Toronto signs |Electronic Signage | Miller McConnell Signs

Have a big, complicated, one-of-a-kind sign project? Trust Miller McConnell Signs to complete the project on time and on budget.

When the Morguard Corporation was looking to revamp the face of the famous clock tower at 47 Clarence Street in the Byward Market, they turned to Miller McConnell Signs to handle the project. We were tasked with replacing the old clock with three high-definition digital video screens and breathing new life into this iconic building.

Goals and Objectives

As a major part of this unique project, we were engaged to:

1) Oversee and manage renewal of clock tower at 47 Clarence Street;

2) Replace analogue clock with three 76″ x 88″ high-definition digital video screens; and

3) Work with engineers and construction companies to reinforce clock tower.

Results

In a project of this size and scope, unexpected challenges were bound to come up along the way. Our team was able to negotiate with the City of Ottawa and Byward Market BIA to secure the necessary sign permits for the project.

The biggest challenge, however, was the clock tower itself. Engineers determined the tower wasn’t big enough to support the weight of the three video screens. Rather than give up, we had the engineering firm and construction company reconstruct and reinforce the tower. Once reconstruction was completed, our team installed the video screens without issue. First started in 2011, this rewarding installation process was completed in March 2014.

Morguard is completely delighted with the results of this innovative process. The screens are now entertaining pedestrians and lighting the Byward Market skyline.
